10 Years of Mido Eats!

I don’t think I should feel special because I sustained myself for 10 years, but rather because I went through a very unique journey throughout the lifetime of Mido Eats.

You can watch the video to listen to the story and look at some of the footage that I managed to collect. I will therefore do my best not to repeat the story from the video, but instead I would like to tell you more of the stuff I may have had to cut out in order to tidy up the narrative of the social media video.

Opening my own restaurant in 2011 seemed like a dream come true, until reality caught up with me and I soon realized that it wasn’t as enjoyable an experience as I thought it would be. I was constantly stressed. My staff, though efficient, were always badgering me with management issues. I was running up and down the country all the time trying to buy the best ingredients to maintain quality standards, and at the time, a lot of Asian ingredients were very hard to come by in Egypt. In 2013 I had investors interested in buying my concept and expanding it into a proper franchise. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out and I had already liquidated and closed down my first branch.

The Food & Beverage industry in Egypt was in pretty bad shape in my opinion. Egyptians would always come back from abroad raving about the amazing food they had and saying how Egyptian restaurants were absolutely no match in comparison. I wanted to say something… well, many things!

In order to have my voice heard, I decided to create a blog, where I would be an anonymous restaurant reviewer in Egypt and help in fairly rating the establishments for the work they provide. It wasn’t a very successful model as soon my face became recognized in some places here and there. From there, I moved on to being a mix of home recipe guy and food socialite. In many ways my brother and best friend (R.I.P.) helped me discover that there wasn’t much meaning or enough purpose in what I was doing, that would fulfill my soul.

Coming from an art background and having studied character animation as well as audio/video production in university, lead me to naturally progress into the visual storytelling side of food. When Covid-19 locked us all down, I spent all of my lock-down time cooking and learning how to photograph food. When the lock-down ended I found no less than 12 clients wanting to shoot their food products with me.

I have worked on so many exciting projects and got featured in numerous online, TV, Radio and also printed publications all the way to the Google Arts & Culture – Rawi page. That was the true moment of self-fulfillment! To be recognized for my passion, my style and for doing what I love to do.
